Suwanee teen killed in Thursday crash on Moore Road

A teenager was killed Thursday afternoon in a traffic accident on Moore Road in Suwanee.

Shan D. Ramcharan, 17, was headed west around 2 p.m., taking the curve at Belle Estates Road, when he lost control of his Nissan 350Z and spun into the eastbound lane, according to an accident report filed by Gwinnett Police.

He was hit by an on-coming Toyota Tacoma, driven by Ann C. Rhodes, 53, of Sugar Hill.

Ramcharan, who attended North Gwinnett High School, according to Gwinnett County Public Schools officials, was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, where he died of his injuries.

"Dealing with death is difficult for all people, and it can be very challenging for teens," said Principal Nathan Ballantine in a letter to parents. A team of counselors were dispatched to the school Friday to help students cope.

"As you know, this is a very caring community, and I know your thoughts and prayers will be with the family and our school during this time."

Rhodes refused medical treatment at the scene of the wreck, and left the scene to get treatment, according to the narrative in the report.

Investigators are working to determine if speed might have been a factor in the wreck.
