Two Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office deputies are out on bond following their arrests for stealing property from a supply storage area.
Cpl. Ronnie Rodriquez allegedly took the unused items on Saturday, March 18 and delivered them to Deputy Jason Cowburn, according to a news release from the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office.
Rodriquez is charged with felony theft by taking and violation of oath. Cowburn is charged with theft by receiving and violation of oath.
Rodriquez was employed by the sheriff's office for 14 years, while Cowburn was employed for 11.
Sheriff's Deputy Shannon Volkadov said Thursday evening that both officers have been placed on administrative leave, and that, in accordance with department policies, each has been given notice of the department's intent to terminate their positions.
"Sheriff Butch Conway expects every member of his staff to follow the law, both on duty and off. Our deputies are not above the law and are expected to follow it. It is a serious breach of trust any time that we learn that one has not and it is not tolerated," the news release stated.
