Longtime Gainesville journalist Ted Oglesby dies at 84

A longtime Gainesville journalist, who held management positions with both WDUN and The Times, has died at the age of 84.
 
Ted Oglesby died Tuesday, March 21, after a time of declining health.
 
Oglesby came to Gainesville in 1956 and was the news director for WDUN for three years, often returning to the airwaves as a political analyst during election seasons. Oglesby also was a columnist for AccessWDUN from 2012 to 2014.
 
Oglesby founded The Gainesville Tribune in 1959, serving as the editor and publisher for 10 years before being called to active duty in the US Army in 1968.
 
Oglesby joined the staff of The Times in 1970, retiring after 25 years.
 
In addition to his career in the field of journalism, Oglesby also had a distinguished military career. He retired in 1981 as a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force; he received a Bronze Star for meritorious service to the country. 
 
Funeral services for Ted Oglesby will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. Lakewood Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Memorial Park Funeral Home North-Riverside Chapel. A full obituary for Oglesby is available on the AccessWDUN obituary page.
