Truett's Chapman fires 2-day school record

By AccessWDUN

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — Kayla Chapman shot a seven-over-par 79 on Monday and followed that up with another 79 on Tuesday as the Truett McConnell women's golf team finished in ninth place at the Skyhawk Invitational this week.

In doing so, she shattered the previous two-day scoring record of 81-83 by six strokes. Kayla finished tied for 10th overall, but five of the top 10 players were from NCAA Division II teams, and Kayla actually finished in fifth place among NAIA schools.

In addition to Kayla, Hannah Wall also contributed a solid 85-84, which landed her in a tie for 30th in a 68 player field.

Perhaps the biggest jump of the day for TMU was that of Hannah McRee. She shot a career best 82, playing as an individual, to move up 12 spots in a tie for 44th.

The ladies team shot a respectable 341-345 in tough playing conditions in the cold and rain. This was good enough for a ninth place finish, ahead of fellow conference teams Reinhardt, Bryan, and Montreat. Nationally ranked No. 21 Milligan came in second, and host school Point came in third, with one of the top players in the nation playing for them and winning the outright low medalist trophy.

The Bears will now get ready for next week's competition at Chattahoochee Golf Club in Gainesville in a tournament hosted by Brenau University.
