UPDATE: Restaurant patron suffers serious leg injury in Gainesville crash

By B.J. Williams
A man walking into a restaurant on Thompson Bridge Road Wednesday morning was injured when he was hit by a vehicle.

Gainesville police said the incident unfolded before 5:00 a.m. when a vehicle driving northbound on Thompson Bridge Road crossed into the southbound lanes of the road and then plowed into a truck in the parking lot of Stan's Biscuits and Deli.

That truck was then pushed into the restaurant patron, who was walking into the front door of the business.

"For a short time he was not necessarily pinned, but stuck between a wall and the pickup truck that was struck.  He actually was able to free himself from being pinned or stuck," Gainesville Fire Department Division Chief Keith Smith said.

The victim, whose name was not immediately available, was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center by a Hall County ambulance with several Gainesville firefighters on board continuing treatment.

"Unfortunately he does have some serious injuries to his leg," Smith said.

An investigation into the crash is underway.

"It is my understanding that it was someone else who was actually in the pickup truck (vehicle that was hit) and they (victim and person in truck) were possibly having a conversation when the accident occurred," Smith said.

Neither the person in the at-fault vehicle or the truck complained of injuries, according to Smith.  Their names were also not immediately available.
