Baseball: Simpson pitches Spartans past Riverside

GAINESVILLE — Dylan Simpson struck out five and allowed just one run on five hits in 4 1/3 innings to lead West Hall to a 4-1 win Wednesday on the road.

The Spartans (2-1) jumped out a to quick 2-0 with a pair of runs in the first. Riverside trimmed the lead to 2-1 with a run in the fourth but West Hall added single runs in the fifth and seventh to pull away.

Jeffery Jenkins had two hits, including a double, and one RBI to lead West Hall. Bailey Kozloski also had two hits and Tanner Ahmad had a hit and an RBI for the Spartans.

Ahmad also tossed 2 2/3 innings fanning four and surrendering just one hit in relief.

Brian Markley pitched well in the loss for Riverside. He yielded six hits in five innings and only one of the runs was earned. He fanned three.

Tom Olander had two hits for the Eagles (1-3). Shawn Woods had a hit and the only RBI for Riverside. Jacob Ladd, Alex Kerns, and Lyle Lopez also had hits for the Eagles.
