Gainesville Mayor reports on State of the City

GAINESVILLE – “The signs of Gainesville’s success are everywhere,” Mayor Danny Dunagan told council members and those in attendance at Tuesday evening’s Gainesville City Council meeting.

Dunagan was offering the annual State of the City Address.

Attendees were handed a four page synopsis of Dunagan’s speech as they entered the Municipal Court Room in the Public Safety Building; written across the front of the handout were the words: “All signs point to success.”

Dunagan began his presentation by addressing the bottom line, “The City of Gainesville finances are very strong.”

“New development and redevelopment within our community continues to grow the tax digest.  Sales tax revenues are at historic highs,” Dunagan continued.

Dunagan touched on all aspects of the city, including:  water and sewer, jobs, Green Street’s future, the police and fire departments and tourism, to name a few.  (To hear Dunagan’s speech in its entirety select the audio player to the left.)

Dunagan concluded by giving “credit-where-credit-is-due”, to the employees and staff of the city, to the residents of Gainesville and to the leadership provided during challenging times by the city council.

“I can comfortably say everyone in this audience has contributed in one way or another to our success.”
