SCREVEN, Ga. - Rick Eckert led all 40 laps in Friday night’s World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series season opener at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Georgia.
Eckert jumped out to the early lead, and built an early advantage over second place Chris Madden. Meanwile, Brandon Overton and Tyler Erb challenged Madden time and again for the runner up spot.
But up front, it was all Eckert, as he drove away to score the victory in the Screven opener for the second straight year.
“It is important to start out early but we have to get through this whole Florida swing,” said Eckert. “It’s just the next night, and the next night, and the next night, and it’s a grind. We won here last year but I think we ended up coming out fifth or sixth in the points. I’d like to come out of Florida leading points and then see if we can fend them off the rest of the year but it is a long year after that.”
Madden finished in second, with Overton in third, Erb in fourth and Brandon Sheppard in fifth.
Casey Roberts, Dennis Franklin, Chub Frank, Brian Shirley and Frank Heckenast, Jr. rounded out the top ten.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series will return to Screven Motor Speedway Saturday for night two of Winter Freeze VII.
