The Gainesville Jaycees awarded Young Man and Young Woman of the Year honors at a Thursday night ceremony at the Chattahoochee Country Club.
The award, which honors outstanding community members under the age of 40, has been distributed since 1945 to young men in Gainesville and since 2001 to young women.
Brett Fowler, a Vice President and Partner of Turner Wood & Smith Insurance in Gainesville was selected as the club's Young Man of the Year. Fowler was lauded for both his community and professional accomplishments. Fowler has served the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Hall County, the Main Street Advisory Board and the Georgia Mountain Food Bank Board of Directors, to name a few. Fowler was recently selected to Georgia Trend Magazine's 40 Under 40.
Julia Greene, this year's Young Woman of the Year honoree, recently moved from a private law practice to a position as an Assistant District Attorney in the local juvenile court system. Greene was recognized for a number of accomplishments, most notably her service as the President of the Junior League of Gainesville-Hall County. During her tenure, the League was able to purchase its own headquarters building on Riverside Drive in Gainesville.
In addition to presenting the Young Man and Young Woman of the Year awards, the Gainesville Jaycees presented a $5,000 check to the United Way's new Compass Center, a one-stop resource and educational center for those living in poverty in the Gainesville-Hall County area.
