Gainesville school officials unveil artist's rendering of new Enota school

By B.J. Williams

Parents, students and teachers have gotten a look at what the new Enota Elementary School in Gainesville will look like. The Gainesville City School System released an artist's rending of the new building this week.

Chris Griner, the Chief Financial Officer for the school system, said earlier this week he thinks seeing the drawing of the new school will be encouraging for stakeholders as they see the process moving forward.

He said there may be a few "tweaks" to the design, but the artist's rendering is very close to the look of the new school.

"Of course, when you start getting into color schemes, things along those lines, the brick, all that stuff hasn't necessarily been picked out," Griner said. "That'll be done, as we did with Mundy Mill, when we gather a group together to make that decision."

The current Enota building is more than 60 years old and the process for building the new school has been ongoing since fall of 2015. At the end of this school year, the old school will be razed and construction on the new school will begin on the same property.

The new building should be ready by August 2018.

Griner said the contractor for the project, Carroll Daniel Construction, is now in the process of gathering bids for the project. School board members will get a look at the bids in March, according to Griner.
