Gwinnett investigators make positive ID on scamming suspect

By AccessWDUN Staff
Gwinnett County police investigators said they now know the real identity of the man who apparently has been ripping off illegal immigrants in metro Atlanta and North Georgia with fake legal advice.

Police have issued warrants for Eddi Bueno-Cabrera, 46, but they still don't know where he is.

Bueno-Cabrera is originally from the Dominican Republic, and he has been deported three times in the past, according to a press statement from the Gwinnett County Police Department.

When investigators unveiled the case earlier this week, they said the suspect had bilked victims out of more than $30,000, claiming he could help them to gain legal citizenship. Once he had money in hand, he disappeared.

The suspect is believed to have set up a stand at Pendergrass Flea Market on Hwy. 129 to conduct some of his fraudulent activity.

The press statement said additional victims have come forward claiming to have been scammed by the suspect, but the lead investigator said there still may be victims who have not reported a crime because they fear law enforcement, since they are in the country illegally.

Currently, Bueno-Cabrera is wanted for three counts of theft by deception and three counts of unauthorized practice of law.

A reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and indictment of Eddi Bueno-Cabrera.

If anyone knows where the suspect can be found, the contact number for GCPD detectives is 770-513-5300.  To remain anonymous, tipsters should contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477) or visit www.crimestoppersatlanta.org.
