Lakeside subdivision gets recommendation of approval despite wildlife concerns

The rezoning for a forty-five lot subdivision along Flat Creek Road in south Hall County was recommended for approval by the Hall County Planning Commission on Monday.

However, neighbors are concerned about the negative effects this new subdivision could have on the wildlife in the area.

“We have deer, we have beautiful foxes that live and exist over there,” said Marsha Jones, who lives across the street from the proposed subdivision. “I just wonder, nature wise, how we can protect that.”

Planning Commission Chairman Don Smallwood said that he understands the neighbors concerns, but that the commission has no control over that.

“As far as the deer and all that kind of stuff, there’s nothing we can do about that,” Smallwood said. “That’s just progress taking place.”

Other concerns that came up was the potential for increased traffic along narrow roadways and a decrease in already poor water quality with more homes to support.

The applicant, David Mercer of Development Consultants, said he would continue to meet with neighbors to work out some of these details before the application goes in front of the Hall County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 23 for final action.
