Upgraded traffic signals to become operational in Jackson County Wednesday

A couple of upgraded traffic signals along U.S. 129 in Jackson County were scheduled to be started up Wednesday, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Crews with Brooks, Berry, Haynie and Associates, a Mableton-based electrical contractor, were scheduled to activate the signal equipment at Ga. 15 Alternate in Jefferson and Ga. 11 connector north of Talmo.

"No lane closures are associated with this work, but crews will be working in the signal cabinets located at the corners of these locations," District One GDOT spokeswoman Katie Strickland wrote in a media release.

The intersections are the first of eight in a project to get new signal equipment, countdown pedestrian signals, Americans with Disabilities Act wheelchair ramps and crosswalks.

On Thursday, workers are scheduled to activate the signal at the Ga. 53 and Interstate 85 southbound ramp.

The pedestrian timers at all three locations will remain covered while crews complete road striping for the project in January.

"This project will continue to improve safety and operation to the Ga. 11/ U.S. 129 corridor and should be completed by the end of March 2018 weather-permitting," Strickland added.

5 additional intersections associated with the project:

  • I-85 northbound ramp at Ga. 53
  • I-85 northbound at Ga. 98
  • Ga. 11/U.S. 129 at Wayne Poultry Road
  • Ga. 11/U.S. 129 at I-85 northbound ramp
  • Ga. 11 at I-85 southbound ramp
