Two shot at Melrose Apartments, Gainesville police investigate

By B.J. Williams
Gainesville police are looking for information in the shooting of two men at Melrose Apartments on Thursday afternoon.

Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said officers were first called to Northeast Georgia Medical Center to check on a man who had come to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg.

When they found out he had been injured at the apartment complex, they went there to investigate.

"Once at that location, officers found another individual in close proximity to Melrose Apartments with a gunshot wound to the hand," Holbrook said. "That individual was transported, as well, to Northeast Georgia Medical Center."

Holbrook said investigators were able to determine that both men were shot as part of the same incident. Beyond that, they haven't been able to gather many other details.

Holbrook said police do not believe the shooting was random in nature.

"We believe that these individuals may have known the actual individual that did shoot them," Holbrook said.

He said the victims were not sharing much information with investigators at this point.

Both men were treated for their injuries and released from the hospital, according to Holbrook.
