Girls basketball: West Hall runs past Dawson; Branch, Buford, Banks, Commerce, Towns each win

OAKWOOD — The West Hall girls basketball team put up 22 second quarter points to take control en route to an eventual 61-45 win over Dawson County on Tuesday in Oakwood.

The Lady Spartans (8-4) trailed 11-9 after the first quarter but caught fire to grab a 31-20 advantage at the half and outscored the Lady Tigers in both the third and fourth quarters.

Anna Mckendree put up a game-high 26 points to lead the West Hall offense. Meanwhile, Cadie Shirley added 10 points, and Kinsey Wilson and Aashyah White each score 8. Kylie Staiserowski chipped in with 7 points.

Emma Brown paced Dawson County with 8 points; Madison Anglin had 7 and Calli Watson, Sophia D'Oliveira, and Cadey Ayers scored 6 points apiece.

The Lady Tigers will look to rebound on Dec. 27 when the travel to Cherokee, North Carolina to play in The Cherokee High School Christmas Tournament.

West Hall, meanwhile, plays host to Jefferson at 4 p.m. Thursday.

The Lady Falcons notched their second straight win in the KSA Tournament in Orlando, Florida, on Tuesday.

Caroline Wysocki paced the Lady Falcons (8-2) with 13 points, while Taniyah Worth added 12 points. Lexie Sengkhammee and Ashlee Locke also each put up 8 points.


BUFORD GIRLS 64
MORGAN COUNTY 29

The Lady Wolves (9-0) dominated from the start, sprinting to a 30-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 40-8 halftime advantage.

Audrey Weiner scored 14 points for Buford, while Tory Ozment added 12 and Preston Reid 10 points in the win.

The Lady Wolves play again on Thursday against Collins Hill in the Naismith Classic at Norcross High.


BANKS COUNTY GIRLS 62,
MONTICELLO 37

Allison Smith put up 20 points, while Jaycie Bowen scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help the Lady Leopards (6-2) to a win on Tuesday night.

Banks County travels to Madison County at 6 p.m. Wednesday. 


COMMERCE GIRLS 56,
JOHNSON 31

Lady Knights standout Chelsea Reece led all scorers with 23 points, draining seven 3-pointers in the loss.


TOWNS COUNTY GIRLS 61,
SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 43

The Lady Indians (3-6) used defensive pressure to force 44 turnovers en route to the victory on Tuesday.

Towns County freshmen Kennedi Henson led the offense with 17 points. Senior Madison McClure followed with 14 points, while Sophia Shook scored 12 and Taylor Cornett scored 10.
