The suspended Chestatee High School head girls basketball coach was arrested Tuesday, charged with felony sexual assault against a student and misdemeanor sexual battery.
"The warrants were obtained yesterday, which was November the 21. Mr. Daniel was arrested yesterday afternoon around 5:30," Hall County Sheriff's Lt. Scott Ware said Wednesday morning.
Ware said Webster Demetrius "Web" Daniel, 42, of Oakwood, has since been released on $11,400 bond.
Authorities alleged Daniel, who is also a teacher, engaged in unwanted sexual contact with a juvenile female student on Thursday, November 16. Ware said it happened at the high school, the victim was enrolled as a student there.
"I have no reason to believe that there are more potential victims, but the investigation is still active until it goes through the court proceedings and it's closed out," Ware said. We're still in the early phases."
Authorities didn't immediately have an attorney listed for Daniel.
On the work front, Hall County School District officials suspended Daniel on Friday the 17th, pending the outcome of the investigation.
"The Chestatee High administration was first made aware of the allegations against Coach Web Daniel on the morning of November 17, 2017," Hall County School District Director of Community Relations and Athletics Gordon Higgins stated. "This prompted an immediate investigation that led to Coach Daniel’s suspension from all teaching and coaching duties that same day from the Hall County School District."
In a media release, Higgins said Daniel has since submitted a letter of resignation. Daniel remained on suspension from all teaching and coaching duties Wednesday, pending official school board action on his employment Monday.
"As a district, we are truly saddened by the incident because the care and safety of our students is our top priority," Higgins added. "We commend the Chestatee High School administration for working as a team with their school resource officer to give these serious allegations the immediate attention deserved, which was followed by the necessary action of suspending Mr. Daniel from all teaching and coaching duties during the course of the investigation."
Interim coach Chris Guthrie will continue to lead the basketball team with Leigh Wilson and assistant coaches Robert Hernandez and Lauren Pounds, according to Higgins.
