UPDATE: Victim of Buford homicide identified

A 43-year-old man is dead, shot on his Buford-area front porch late Thursday night, in what police are calling a homicide.

Based on a preliminary investigation, Gwinnett County Police said George Young returned home from work around midnight.

Young was on the porch of the Montauk Hill Drive home, about to go inside, when he was shot, Cpl. Michelle Pihera wrote in a media release.

"Several family members from inside the home heard the gunshots and went outside to investigate the source," Pihera added.  "That's when they found the victim on the porch. Family members tried to render aid until an ambulance could arrive."

Authorities said there's no significant dispatch history at the house over the past year. Family members cooperated with investigators and remained at the home to speak with them, according to the release.

"No suspects have been identified, and we are seeking tips in this case," Pihera stated.

Montauk Hill Drive is in the vicinity of Hamilton Mill and Ridge roads.
