Clermont Post Office a step closer to being named for fallen Marine

A Hall County native and fallen U.S. Marine is one step closer to having the Clermont Post Office named in his honor.

U.S. Rep. Doug Collins, R-Gainesville, has spearheaded the effort to lawmakers to have the post office named for Lance Corporal Zack T. Addington.

"Zack Addington was one who went willingly," Collins said on the House Floor. "He knew that he may not return and told people he may not and he did not. But, that service and that sacrifice gives us the ability to stand here today."

Addington was born in Gainesville in 1948, lived his whole life in Hall County before joining the Marine Corps in 1967. Addington was killed in Vietnam in 1968 and posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon.

The family plans to display Addington's honors in the post office after the re-naming.

Collins' House Resolution 3821 was passed by unanimous vote and now moves on to the Senate for consideration.
