Coldest weather of season settles over north Ga.; October wetter than normal

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

As a wetter-than-usual October comes to an end, the coldest weather of the season was settling over north Georgia Sunday.

Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport in Gainesville had recorded 4.63 inches of rain through Saturday, with no rain in the forecast for the remaining three days in the month.   Normal rainfall for Gainesville for October is 3.88 inches.

Rainfall for the year in Gainesville is running about an inch above normal.

Temperatures, meanwhile, plunged into the 30s across most of north Georgia Sunday morning, the coldest weather so far this fall.  Daytime highs were expected to climb only into the 40s in most places and a Wind Advisory was in effect all day.

The cold weather will keep it grip on north Georgia overnight and a Freeze Warning was issued for Sunday night for much of north Georgia.  Temperatures are expected rebound, however, Monday, with highs getting into the 60s.
