3 hurt in wrong-way crash on Ga. 53 near Gainesville

A Gainesville woman is charged with driving on the wrong side of the roadway following a three-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on Ga. 53/Dawsonville Highway in Hall County, authorities said.

The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for about an hour as the Georgia State Patrol worked the accident scene near Stephens Circle.  Troopers responded to the crash at roughly 6:51 a.m.

Judy Arrowsmith, 65, faced the charge, according to State Patrol SFC Anthony Coleman.

Authorities believe Arrowsmith's vehicle was headed west in the eastbound lanes of 53 when it was involved in a head-on crash with an eastbound 2000 Pontiac Bonneville.  The Bonneville, according to Coleman, was pushed into the right eastbound lane, where it hit a 1999 Lincoln Towncar.

All three drivers were taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of what Coleman described as non-life threatening injuries.

The crash resulted in major delays for motorists who use Dawsonville Highway to travel into Gainesville.  Reports of delays on Ga. 60/Thompson Bridge Road were also reported as drivers shifted to alternate routes into the city.
