Suwanee closes median across Sawmill Drive, Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road intersection

City leaders in Suwanee are testing a traffic project that could permanently close left-turn access to and from Sawmill Drive and Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road.

The median across the intersection will be closed until mid-January, said Marty Allen, city manager, in an interview with AccessWDUN.

At the end of the 90-day test period, city council members may decide to make the change permanent.

Signs and public notices were posted in the area last week.

"The actual movement of materials to create the right-turn situation starts (Friday)," said Allen.

Leaders are hoping the move will lead to a more efficient traffic flow to and from Interstate 85 along Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road.

Under the new plan, a traffic light is longer needed at the intersection, said Allen.

The move was initially discussed in July.
