The Gainesville volleyball team claimed its second area title in three years on Saturday in Winder.
The Lady Red Elephants (28-11) entered the area tournament on Thursday with a perfect 10-0 record in area matches and as the No. 1 seed.
Gainesville first defeated a determined Habersham Central team -- 25-16, 20-25, 25-11. GHS then swept No 2 seed Apalachee -- 25-17, 25-18 -- and earned a spot in the area championship.
Apalachee navigated through the loser's bracket to face Gainesville again in the finals, and the Lady Red Elephants stormed through the best-of-five match 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-19) to claim their second region title in program history.
Kenley Jordan and Abby Alexander made All-Area, and Savannah Roys earned Area MVP.
For the tournament Roys led with 17 aces, 25 kills, 55 assists, and 36 digs. Abby Alexander added 13 kills and 5 blocks. Ashley Filson had 11 digs. Kenley Jordan had 7 aces, 38 kills, 4 blocks, and 22 digs. Anna Wylie added 3 aces, 20 kills, 11 digs. Isabella Appling had 5 aces, 10 assists, 36 digs. Camille Calkins added 2 aces, 3 kills, 5 digs. Camille Holcomb had 2 aces, 34 assists, 17 digs. Ansley Turner added 11 kills and 5 digs.
Gainesville will host the No. 4 seed from 6-AAAAAA at 6 p.m. Thursday.
