Gainesville: State Supreme Court upholds conviction, sentence in murder at automobile dealership

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

The Georgia Supreme Court has upheld the conviction and life sentence given the man who shot and killed a Gainesville automobile dealership employee five years ago.

Mark Antonio Taylor was convicted by a Hall County Superior Court jury in May 2014.  Testimony shows he shot and killed Charles Ernest Weaver in the early morning hours of December 28, 2012, while trying to steal a truck.  He was arrested two days later in Atlanta.

The incident happened at the then-Mitsubishi dealership on Browns Bridge Road.

Among other things, Taylor claimed in his appeal that his lawyer provided ineffective counsel.

The high court's decision upholding Taylor's conviction and life sentence, was unanimous.
