BUFORD — The Buford girls softball team routed Walnut Grove 10-0 in 5 innings Thursday to claim the Region 8-AAAAA, its sixth straight region title.
Buford senior Logan Caymol, two days after striking out 16 against Loganville, Caymol fanned eight Lady Warriors batters while scattering three hits with only one runner advancing into scoring position.
Senior Gabby Benson led the Buford offense with a two-run triple as part of a three-run first inning. The Lady Wolves added four more in the second, one in the third, and two in the fourth to put the game away.
Junior Mariah Wicker had a hit and two RBI and scored twice. Senior Arielle Oda had two hits and scored two runs and senior Skylar Jenkins had a triple for Buford.
The Lady Wolves (21-4) will play host in the first round of the Class AAAAA state tournament on Wednesday The first round is a best of 2 out of 3 with a double-header on Wednesday and a Game 3, if necessary, on Thursday.
The opponent and game times are TBA against the No. 4 seed from Region 7-AAAAA.
