NORCROSS — The East Hall volleyball team defeated Dawson County and Fannin County and fell to Greater Atlanta Christian during early round play in the Area 7-AAA tournament on Tuesday in Norcross.
The Lady Vikings (29-16) swept Dawson 25-16 and 25-21 and Fannin County 25-15 and 31-29, while GAC prevailed 25-6, 25-22 -- yet East Hall still sealed a berth in the upcoming state tournament.
Savannah Thellman also broke the Lady Vikings' single season record for assists and also holds the career assist record for East Hall as well. Thellman had 3 points scored on serve with 3 aces, 4 kills, 17 digs and 51 assists during Tuesday's play.
Niyah Rucker also had 4 points on serve with 1 ace, 10 digs, 9 blocks and 29 kills for East Hall, while Holly Poole had 12 points scored on serve with 4 aces, 29 digs, 2 assists and 12 kills. Summer Lindsey had 13 points scored on serve with 2 aces, 1 assist, 1 kill and 29 digs; Tessa Rider scored 23 points on serve with 3 aces, 26 digs, 2 blocks, 4 assists and 20 kills; Janelly Lara scored 16 points on serve with 6 aces, 1 assist, 1 kill and 25 digs; and Macy Thomas had 8 kills, 1 assist and 2 blocks.
East Hall plays again in the 7-AAA tournament at 4 p.m. Thursday against Dawson County to determine the No. 4 seed going into the state tournament, with the winner facing the loser between North Hall and GAC.
