Truett women snap losing streak

CLEVELAND — The Truett McConnell women's basketball team held off a furious rally in the fourth quarter to snap its three game losing streak with a 67-62 win over Tennessee Wesleyan Saturday afternoon in the Bear Cave.

The Bears improve to 10-9 overall and get to .500 in AAC play with the win.

The Bears came out red hot in the first quarter of play, shooting 10-of-14 from the field to take a 23-10 lead to the second quarter. TMU then grinded out a second quarter tie with the Bulldogs.

Trailing by 10 going to the final quarter, the Bulldogs became energized on the offensive end, bringing the game all the way back and taking their first lead of the contest with 4:16 to play. The Bears responded with a 9-2 run to put the game away in the waning seconds.

Ariana Sanders led the way with a career high performance of 28 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field. Anna Murr added 11 points for TMU.

The Bears will hit the road on Wednesday for their next AAC contest as they take on Columbia. Tip off is set for 6:30 p.m.
