Mixed use development in the works for downtown Braselton

By B.J. Williams
When the Braselton Planning Commission meets later this month, members will vote on a rezoning request for a mixed use development in the downtown area.

Kevin Keller, Braselton Planning and Development Director, said the project on Broadway Avenue (Highway 124) in the Piedmont Avenue area includes commercial buildings and private residences.

The application from Peggy Slappey Properties, Inc. indicates there would be a total of 101 condominium and detached single family homes; commercial building space would total 17, 825 square feet.

Keller said while the proposal is not among the larger, projects Braselton has seen in recent years, it is a bit unusual for the downtown area.

"With the exception of one littel strip center and where the Bojangle's is going, we haven't seen actually any new development for downtown in quite some time," said Keller. "We've had a lot of redevelopment and rehabilitation."

The property in question is 13.785 acres in size.

The rezoning request goes before the planning commission on January 23. The Braselton Mayor and City Council will hold a public hearing on February 9.
