The state's open burning ban will be lifted this weekend.
Gainesville Fire Captain Keith Smith issued a release Thursday afternoon announcing the end of the annual ban on October 1.
Residential burning is only allowed from October 1 through April 30 each year.
Smith reminds residents of burning requirements for residences in the city limits, which includes obtaining a burn permit, only burning leaves, grass and small tree limbs, having a method of extinguishment present during burning and only burning during daylight hours, among other requirements.
Anyone with questions about the burn ban or who wants more information about obtaining a permit should contact the fire department at 770-534-3612.
