October business summit in Gainesville to include social media tips

This year's Georgia Department of Labor business summits will include a little social media.

Labor commissioner Mark Butler is hosting the series of 12 summits across the state, including a stop in Gainesville on Wednesday, October 5.

Butler said he likes different and new information to be offered by presenters each year.

"They're going to be giving a talk about how businesses can use social media to enhance their business, but also some of the pitfalls of how social media can also adversely affect your business, but give a lot of good tips of how to use it and leverage it in the right way."

This year's summits, entitled "Employers In The Know" are part of what Butler said was a growing response from the business community for more information.

"In our job to help individuals find work, we have to have those established relationships and good relationships with our business community, because that's where the jobs are," Butler said.

In addition to getting information from presenters, he said the summits also give his office officials a chance to hear directly from business leaders, in order to improve service.

In addition to Butler's comments, and the presentation on social media, experts at the summit are expected to discuss a range of employment and legal issues.  Employers will also hear about labor laws and unemployment insurance.

"Not only do we talk about changes and things that the Georgia Department of Labor is doing, but we typically have somebody, a labor attorney, who we also have there at these who gives a talk about changes in federal law."

The summit in Gainesville is cosponsored by the Gainesville Area Employer Committee.
