Moon guns for a new title; IronDawgs also compete in Gainesville

By AccessWDUN Staff

Georgia IronDawg Tim "T" Moon of Gainesville is not used to coming in second.

Widely considered the strongest man on the benchpress over age 50 in world history, the 52-year-old Moon holds numerous national and world titles and records -- across a number of Federations. This Friday in Las Vegas, Moon will take a chance to claim a major title that has eluded him after receiving a repeat invitation to the prestigious Olympia Meet. At last year's Olympia, Moon failed to get in a valid lift via a judges' split decision but rebounded a few days later at another world meet in the same city.

With an "equipped" bench press in excess of 821 pounds Moon -- whose weight hovers around 280 pounds -- has the heaviest bench on record, regardless of weight class, for masters' lifters aged 50-plus.

Meanwhile, closer to home, some of Moon's IronDawg teammates will lift at the America's Cup meet, scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Iron Beast Gym, located on Grove Street in Gainesville. Competition is slated for men and women in various age and weight classes in full-power (squat/bench/deadlift) as well as push/pull (bench/deadlift), bench-only and deadlift-only.

"We are all pulling for 'T' at the Olympia and our folks at the America's Cup at the Beast," said IronDawg team captain, R. Garry Glenn of Oakwood. The 62-year-old Glenn is expected to compete in the push/pull category in Gainesville.
