Police investigators are seeking the public's help in locating a suspect believed to be responsible for the Friday night shooting death of a Gainesville man on Athens Street.
Gainesville police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said a murder warrant has been issued for Darvis Donquan "Tookie" Bledson, 33, in the fatal shooting outside a building that once housed a club called Sparkles.
The victim, Terry Jerome "TJ" Maddox, 30, was shot multiple times and died on scene.
Bledson, who Holbrook said "is believed to be in the Atlanta metro area and should be considered armed and dangerous," is described as a black male, standing 5'5" tall and weighing 175 lbs.
The suspect also has multiple tattoos, including the name "Michelle" on his neck, in addition to others on his chest and arm.
Holbrook said in an earlier update that there was a crowd of people outside the venue when police first arrived at the scene, but at this point investigators do not know if there was a party or some other event taking place.
"It was a former club on Athens Street that's been closed down for awhile, however, it's been used for private events and things of that nature," Holbrook said.
Holbrook said shortly after the incident that police were hoping to get information on the shooting from those who were at the scene or from people who live in the neighborhood.
"Any detail - no matter how small it may be - may be that piece of information that breaks the case," Holbrook said. "It's a close-knit area, individuals talk amongst one another, so it is important anyone with information please come forth."
Holbrook said the deadly shooting happened around 11 p.m.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting local police with the investigation.
