Hall County Commission moves forward with Cresswind traffic study, Walnut Grove traffic lights

Hall County commissioners are moving forward with a traffic study to determine if a traffic signal is warranted at the intersection of Ga. 369/Browns Bridge Road and Cresswind Parkway.

Three parties will be splitting the $4,000 project cost, with Hall County, Gainesville and Kolter Homes, LLC agreeing to pay $1,333.33 each, said Ken Rearden, Hall County public works director.

"A lot of the residents out there have been complaining about the backup trying to get out onto (Ga.) 369," said Rearden at the commission's work session Tuesday morning.

Wilburn Engineering, LLC will conduct the study, which takes two to three weeks to complete.

Commissioners must give the agreement final approval at their voting session Thursday at 9 a.m., then send it to Gainesville and Kolter Homes for their signatures, said Rearden.

"Once we get all the signatures, we will engage our consultant. They will get out there pretty quickly. I would say no later than the end of October we'll know something," said Rearden.

Any additional costs above the $4,000 will fall on Kolter, according to county documents.

If a signal is warranted and approved, it will cost an additional $5,500.

COMMISSION GIVES TENTATIVE GREEN LIGHT TO WALNUT GROVE STREET LIGHTS

Commissioners also gave approval to another neighborhood development, giving tentative approval to a plan that would put the Walnut Grove subdivison into a special tax district to fund street lights in the neighborhood.

75-percent of homeowners in the subdivision signed a petition for the request, an option the county gives to older neighborhoods that want to update their streets.

It will cost approximately $55 per home owner, per year to fund the traffic lights, with the bill appearing on their property tax bill in perpetuity.

The plan faces final approval at council's voting session Thursday.
