(VIDEO) West Hall storms past Johnson, 42-14 to claim Battle of Oakwood

OAKWOOD — West Hall gave a sneak peak of its abilities in last week's season opener -- and then turned Friday night's Battle of Oakwood into the big show.

The Spartans fired on just about all cylinders in a 42-14 defeat of old rival Johnson, rolling up 447 yards of offense while holding the Knights to 180 -- much of that coming after the visitors had built a 21-0 lead.

West Hall quarterback Jacob Satterfield proved especially deadly, completing 7 of 10 passes for 121 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing two times for 80 yards and a score.

The senior's eye-opening 75-yard touchdown sprint up the middle -- in which he ran away from Knights defenders with 10:37 left in the first half -- capped a dominant start to the second quarter that saw West Hall overturn a stuttering start for both teams.

It was also the last significant play before lightning derailed the contest for one hour and 18 minutes.

Johnson, which had begun to find some offensive traction just before the weather interrupted, maintained its momentum, scoring on the first play after the restart -- Sam Corbett lofting a 20-yard touchdown pass to a wide-open Chandler Barkley to haul the Knights (0-2) within 21-7.

But West Hall's attack was similarly unfazed and fired right back, as AJ Favorite hauled in a swing pass and sprinted 14 yards into the end zone to make it 28-7 and maintain a three-score cushion for the Spartans (1-1).

Cooper Adams finished as West Hall's leading rusher, putting up 91 yards on 13 carries -- though he did not manage a touchdown -- as West Hall rolled to an eye-popping 326 yards on the ground. Tyrese Osborne also had 62 yards on six carries, including a 55-yard touchdown run in the first quarter -- a play that seemed to calm West Hall's nerves after an edgy start.

Osborne actually set up the play, recovering a Johnson fumble just seconds prior. It was the senior's first of two takeaways on the night -- he also intercepted a pass while falling to the ground.

Ashun Favorite and TK Hendrix also added third quarter touchdown runs for West Hall.

The Spartans will look to keep things rolling next week when they travel to face Washington-Wilkes.

Johnson -- which also got a fourth quarter touchdown plunge from Corbett, who also completed 6 of 11 passes for 93 yards -- will look to get its first win next week against a Banks County team that is also 0-2 so far.
