Agreement reached on contract for Gainesville schools superintendent

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

The Gainesville Board of Education has reached an agreement on a contract for Supt. Wanda Creel.

The board met in executive session Thursday morning to discuss the matter but was unable to vote on the accord when the session ended because of the absence of some board members.

"We reached an agreement with Dr. Creel and will be presenting it to the whole board for approval at the work session on September 6," board chairman Delores Diaz said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon.

Creel became superintendent in 2014 following the retirement of Merrianne Dyer.  Before coming to Gainesville, she was superintendent of Barrow County Schools.
