VIDEO: Police say human skull, other bones found in suitcase along I-985

A human skull discovered along Interstate 985 in north Gwinnett County Friday morning was found along with other bones in a suitcase, authorities said.

The suitcase was discovered in woods off of the northbound side of the Interstate near Buford Drive, according to Gwinnett County Police Corporal Michelle Pihera.  She said it's in an area the Georgia Department of Transportation is currently working.

"One of the construction workers went about 80 yards into the woods to relieve himself when he found the suitcase. The worker came out of the woods and told his supervisor," Pihera wrote in a news release.

Detectives with the department responded to the 911 call around 11:00 a.m. and cordoned off the area for investigation.

"The responding officer said that the suitcase appears to have been in the woods for an extended period of time. No identification has been made on the bones," Pihera added.

Investigators were expected to research missing persons cases in Gwinnett and other counties.
