The University of North Georgia (UNG) is ranked one of 2016's Best and Most Affordable Online RN to BSN programs in the nation, according to College Choice, an independent online publication dedicated to helping students and their families find the right college.

Ranking fourth in affordability and 10th overall best in nursing, UNG's Bachelor of Science in nursing program prepares nurses with the knowledge and skills to practice in both acute and community settings.

"UNG's nursing program has exceptional outcomes and a notable faculty that is responsible for increasing access to low-cost, high-quality health care throughout the region through its rural health care programs and clinics," said Dr. Kim Hudson-Gallogly, head of UNG's Department of Nursing.

The projected national shortage of registered nurses is expected to be most intense in the south and west according to the American Journal of Medical Quality.

"To meet such a high demand of nurses in the future, UNG's College of Health Sciences and Professions offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees which include: Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Registered Nursing to BSN for undergraduates; and Master of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner for graduate students," said Dr. Teresa Conner-Kerr, dean of UNG's College of Heath and Professions.

For this ranking, College Choices consulted a variety of sources, including U.S. News and World Report, USA Today, the National Center for Educational Statistics, individual program websites, and Payscale.com. The resulting ranking reflects what the publication believes are the best programs in the country for preparation in the nursing profession based on affordability, reputation and return on investment.

"The school has long been home to the country's top nursing programs and has brought their academic standards and commitment to excellence online. With courses ranging from health care administration, law and policy to nursing research and critical thought, students will be brought into a degree plan that helps them plan out the next stages of their career as leaders," College Choice's report stated. "For students who prefer online nursing programs, this RN to BSN degree program is perfect. The courses can be taken completely online or in hybrid format, and all clinical rotations are done under the supervision of a preceptor and the nurse faculty at UNG. Altogether this creates a nurse that is willing and able to take on tomorrow's challenges."

UNG's nursing department is accredited by the Accreditation Commission of Education in Nursing. For more information about UNG's nursing program, visit http://ung.edu/nursing/.
