Hall County Library System begins work on strategic plan update

By B.J. Williams

For the next few months, the Hall County Library System (HCLS) will be working on an update to its strategic plan, and officials have started the process with an online community survey

The survey went live last week and will be accessible for at least the next two weeks, according to Library Director Lisa MacKinney.

"I think it's [having a strategic plan] extremely important not just for having a basic philosophy of knowing where you're going in the future, but...this process is very community based," MacKinney said. "We need to figure out what they need from us."

MacKinney said library officials are encouraging all community members to complete the survey, library users and non-users alike.

"We'd really like to know from our users what are we doing well, where do you think we need to beef up our services," said MacKinney. "For our non-users...why aren't they coming in? Are there products or services we could offer them that would help them get more use from their tax dollars."

In addition to the survey, MacKinney said the process will include a community retreat with stakeholders in late August. Once all of the research is done and the plan is written, then board members for HCLS will review the plan and vote on it.

MacKinney said HCLS is working with Georgia Public Library Service to coordinate the strategic planning process. Once all is said and done, the plan should be viable for the next 3 to 5 years.

The survey is available now at the Hall County Library System website
