Gainesville: UNG's Starlight Concert & Fireworks moving to August

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

The annual Starlight Concert & Fireworks at the University of North Georgia's Gainesville campus is moving to August starting this year to further involve the students.  It has, for years, traditionally been held in June.

"We have moved it to expand it from being a community-oriented event to be more inclusive of our students," UNG spokeswoman Kate Maine said in an email.  "Fall semester begins August 22, so the event will be at the end of the first week of classes (August 27). We are featuring some student performance groups in the time leading up to the fireworks, and some student organizations will be involved in activities for children."

Maine added "as in years past, we encourage community members to participate. There will be food available for purchase onsite; attendees may also bring picnics."

All UNG students will be able to enter free with a valid UNG student parking permit. For all others, entry is $10 per car or $20 per van. All proceeds benefit UNG students.
