Children RISE to new heights at Fair Street

By AccessWDUN staff

If you have visited Fair Street IB World School over the past couple of weeks, you may have heard squeals of laughter coming from some of the classrooms.  Those sounds were coming from children of varying ages participating in programs offered by the Gainesville City School System during the summer.

Fair Street serves as the host school for several programs during the summer months including the RISE program. Created by community partners in Gainesville and Hall County, RISE (Real Interactive Summer Learning Experience) is a collaborative six-week summer program consisting of rising first- through sixth-graders that integrates the Gainesville City School System curriculum to reduce summer learning loss prevalent in some children.

Children participate in hands-on activities such as scientific experiments and projects, engage in new learning strategies,  learn about health, nutrition, and cultural awareness, and participate in daily recreation and weekly field trips.

The primary goal, according to school officials, is for children to return to school in the fall prepared for their grade level.
