GOHS 'Thunder Task Force' to increase patrols in Hall County this weekend, prior to July 4 holiday

By AccessWDUN Staff

The Governor's Office of Highway Safety Thunder Task Force is coming to Hall County ahead of the July 4th weekend, looking to get impaired drivers off the road prior to the holiday.

Law enforcement will be conducting concentrated patrols across the state for three days and three nights, starting Thursday, June 23.

"Traffic deaths have risen in Georgia for the first time in a decade and one area we have seen an alarming rise in fatalities is Hall County," said Governor's Office of Highway Safety Director Harris Blackwood in a news release.

There have been nearly 11,000 traffic crashes in Hall County since the start of 2015, resulting in 3,400 injuries and 47 deaths, said Blackwood.

More than 100 people have died in the last five years in Hall County traffic accidents.

The Thunder Task Force will look to curb those numbers, starting just before sunrise Thursday, with patrols looking for impaired drivers, speeding, distracted driving and seat belt violations, among others.

Drivers can expect to come across sobriety road checks throughout the county throughout the weekend.

"If you are impaired and get behind the wheel in Hall County this weekend, you will be pulled over and you will go to jail," said Blackwood.
