United Way of Hall County calling on community to volunteer during National Day of Action

United Way of Hall County calling on community to volunteer during National Day of Action

Since 2008, communities across the country have celebrated the United Way's Day of Action on June 21 by emphasizing the power of volunteerism.

President & Chief Professional Officer of United Way of Hall County, Joy Griffin, says the local United Way office is working on ways to get our community involved with volunteering.

"It's a day to recognize volunteering as an essential part of what we do at United Way around our work in education, financial stability and health," said Griffin.

"United Way of Hall County has not typically been involved in Day of Action, but we decided this year to try to begin the effort here to emphasise the power of volunteerism, even if it is just one thing."

Through the United Way of Hall County newsletter, Hall County residents can discover volunteer opportunities with different local non-profits for June 21 and for the remainder of the year.

"At United Way, our role is to unite and lift the community one person at a time. Sometimes that could be volunteering for just one day like the National Day of Action or it really is more impactful if you can give your commitment throughout the year in ways daily you can volunteer,' Griffin said.

According to Griffin, the day is a great way to involve an entire family in volunteering, even if it is something as simple as holding a door open for someone in need.

Another way residents of Hall County can participate in National Day of Action is by dropping off needed items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, body wash, and hand sanitizer.
