Banks/Madison standoff suspect faces robbery, assault, hijacking charges

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has released more details of Monday night's double shooting in Banks County and subsequent hours-long standoff in Madison County.

Jeremy Onori, 38, of Athens is charged with shooting Brandon Bell, 19, and Kentavious Burges, 21, off Georgia Highway 326 Monday night and then taking their vehicle, according to the GBI.

Onori is charged with three counts of aggravated assault, two counts of armed robbery, and one count of hijacking a motor vehicle, the GBI reports.

The arrest of Onori followed a lengthy standoff with officers on Blacks Creek Road in Madison County. After a trooper from the Georgia State Patrol used the Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver, Onori pointed a gun at his head to keep officers at bay, officials said earlier.

Onori surrendered to the GSP SWAT team, and no one was injured.

Banks County Sheriff Carlton Speed requested the GBI to investigate the shooting incident.

In addition to GSP, Madison County Sheriff's Office, Banks County S.O., Jackson County S.O., Franklin County S.O., Athens-Clarke County Police Department and Commerce P.D. assisted with the incident.

Shooting victims Bell and Burges were transported to a local hospital, where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to the GBI.

The investigation is continuing.
