GAINESVILLE — Saturday saw the opening round of the first City-County Championship tournament at Chattahoochee Golf Course in Gainesville. The second and final round will be held at Chicopee Woods Golf Course on Sunday. This is a new golf tournament using both Chattahoochee and Chicopee Woods golf courses in Hall County.
Morgan Nix fired a low round of 1-under-par 71 to lead the Championship Flight by one shot over Davis Weaver (72). Randy Bailey is three shots off of the pace with a 74. Jim Foote and Ryan Hogan are tied for 4th with rounds of 76.
Larry White fired a 73 in the Blue Tee flight and has a three-shot advantage over Tate Freeman, alone in second with a 76. Keith Morris is third (79), followed by Walter Hope in fourth with an 81.
The Senior White Tee Flight is a race between Terry Clegg and Tommy Calhoun. Clegg has a two-stroke lead over Calhoun with an 82. Pat Ruiz, Tony Tankersley and Wayne Strickland are tied for third position, all three firing 87.
In the Super Senior Flight, Terry McFarland (77) holds a slim one-shot lead over Joe Roberts (78). Paul Payne and Roger Stapp are tied for third and only two shots back, both shooting 79.
Leaders will tee off at 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
The annual City Championship will be held at Chattahoochee Golf Course July 15-17, 2016 and the annual Chicopee Championship will be held at Chicopee Woods Golf Course Aug. 13-14.
