No charges filed after South Hall search called off; search effort yields stolen truck in separate case

Deputies in south Hall County have called off their search after initially setting up a perimeter near Spout Springs Road in their pursuit of an armed suspect.

Initial reports from Hall County Sheriff's Deputy Nicole Bailes said the male suspect, whose identity has not been released, allegedly fled a "domestic situation" at a home on Williams Road. She added that authorities were advised that the suspect, who was said to be armed, had left the scene in a grey truck.

After arriving at the scene of the domestic call that prompted the search, deputies determined that no charges would be forthcoming in the incident.

Coincidentally, Bailes said that while the search for the suspect was ongoing, "a patrol deputy that was in the area spotted a grey truck matching the description" of the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop the truck. The vehicle fled from the officer and was found abandoned a short time later.

Bailes said a K9 unit was called to the area to track down the driver, who was apprehended after a briefing trcking effort.

The vehicle, which was unrelated to the domestic incident that led to the 911 call and resulting search effort, was apparently listed as stolen out of Gwinnett County.

The driver of the vehicle was later identified as Buford resident Gregory Phillips. The 24-year-old faces a felony charge of Theft by Receiving and a misdemeanor charge of Drving with a Suspended License.
