Cargill employees to lose jobs in business acquisition

A new business agreement will bring about job cuts for workers at the Cargill plant in Gainesville.

Cargill has opted to sell part of its business, the part making dressings, sauces and mayonnaise, to Ventura Foods in California, according to a press release.

"Many" of the 52 current employees will be retained for 15 to 18 months as part of the agreement.

"The acquisition of Cargill's DSM business furthers Ventura Foods strategy to grow, strengthen and diversify. It adds greater depth to our already strong capabilities and another platform for innovation," said Chris Furman, Ventura Foods President and CEO.

The acquisition means that Cargill will retain ownership of the Gainesville plant, but Ventura will own the dressings, sauces and mayoinnaise assets.

Cargill also operates at facilities in Port St. Lucie, FL and Sydney, OH.
