Hall County Sheriff's Office officials said the man involved in a domestic-related incident near McEver Arts Academy Tuesday afternoon will not face charges in the incident.The subject was served a Temporary Protective Order, issued a Criminal Trespass Warning and released from the scene with no further incident, said Deputy Chad Mann in an email statement.
Hall County Schools officials said no one was injured after a domestic incident apparently spilled over near the grounds of the school just after noon.
Superintendent Will Schofield said in a phone interview that the front office at the school was tipped off that a parent was upset and might be coming to campus. He said the front office staff immediately locked the doors at the school and contacted the Hall County Sheriff's Office.
School System spokesman Gordon Higgins said at that point, the school was put on a soft lockdown.
"They went on total lockdown at 12:15 when the father showed up," said Higgins.
Schofield said he did not know specifics about the domestic dispute, but Higgins indicated the parent was under a temporary protective order and was not to have contact with his children. The father arrived at the school around 12:15, apparently wanting to see his two children.
That's when the school was placed on a hard lockdown. Deputies were able to talk with the parent and met him off campus, where he was detained and given a warning, then released
The students at the school were unaware anything was going on and were safe at all times, according to both Higgins and Schofield.
Both said the Hall County Sheriff's Office is handling the case now.
Schofield said he was pleased at the way the staff at McEver handled the emergency. He also said such incidents are confirmation that the school district has done the right thing by spending money on security measures that ensure people who are not supposed to be on school grounds have limited access to the campuses.
