Deal considers measures as Tuesday deadline looms

By Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) Several bills that have spurred debate across the state still await the signature of Gov. Nathan Deal, and it is not clear how he will move on the measures.

Among the bills still being considered is one that would allow anyone ages 21 and up to carry a concealed handgun on a university campus with the proper permit. Another bill would allow electroshock weapons to be carried on campus.

The governor is also considering a bill that would increase the number of state Supreme Court justices from seven to nine.

In terms of education, Deal's signature could also come to a bill that would lower the number of standardized tests taken by public school students.

The only bill that the governor is required to sign is the state budget. He has four budget-signing appearances Monday, including one at 8:15 a.m. in Gainesville.
