GAINESVILLE — Spencer Ralston played like a senior bent on enjoying his final varsity tournament on his home course Friday.
The Gainesville standout fired a low round 9-under 63 at Chattahoochee Golf Club to take the individual lead at The Invite -- including a 7-under performance through the back nine.
Ralston, a University of Georgia signee, helped the Red Elephants to finish the day with a team score of 284 -- six shots behind leaders Columbus. Lee Scott Academy is currently second with a team score of 280 in the eight-team field.
AD Winston and Davis Weaver also enjoyed a strong outings for Gainesville on Friday, each carding a 1-over 73, while Ryan Hogan was just behind at 75.
Ralston faces tough competition for low medalist honors, as Lee Scott golfers Turk Pettit fired a 7-under 65 and Davis Thompson carded a 6-under 66. Columbus recorded four individuals under par on Friday.
The tournament will finish play on Saturday in Gainesville.
