Man suffers life threatening injuries in Forsyth County wreck

A man was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville Friday afternoon following a serious wreck on Ga. 400 in Forsyth County.

The man, whose identity was not released pending notification of his family, was driving his Chevy Cruze east on Martin Road when a van ran a redlight on Ga. 400 and hit the Cruze, said Sgt. First Class Tim Meyer with the Georgia State Patrol, Cumming.

"There are three witnesses who have confirmed the account of the crash," said Meyer. "It appears the (van) driver was distracted by another traffic crash that was being investigated in the vicinity."

The other crash, according to Meyer, was a "very minor" rear-end collision that had been pulled off into the gore area of a nearby turn lane.

"The driver of the van made a statement that he was basically looking at that crash, and didn't notice that the light had turned red when he traveled through the intersection and struck the Chevy Cruze," said Meyer.

Charges are anticipated against the van driver.

Both drivers were alone in their vehicles at the time of the wreck.
