SAVANNAH — The University of North Georgia baseball team rallied from a 7-0 deficit, but the comeback fell one run short as the Nighthawks fell to Armstrong State in the series finale, 7-6, on Saturday. UNG is now 16-13 overall and 8-10 in Peach Belt Conference play.

The Pirates (13-16, 4-14) scored five runs in the third to open the scoring. After two UNG errors in the inning and the Pirates leading 2-0, Spencer Harvey hit a three-run homer down the left-field line to put the Pirates ahead, 5-0.

In the fifth, the Pirates scored a sixth run on a RBI single by Berry Aldridge. Two batters later, the only Pirate earned run of the day crossed the plate on a Chandler Corley RBI triple.

The Nighthawk comeback started in the sixth. Connor Hoover led off the inning by drawing a four-pitch walk. Steven Tomlinson brought him home with two outs in the inning on a RBI single to cut the Pirate lead to 7-1.

North Georgia again scored with two outs in the seventh. After Erick Delgado reached on an error and Devin Gearhart singled, Hoover singled up the middle to bring home Delgado.

Trailing 7-2 in the eighth, North Georgia put another run on the board. Trevor Sams led off the inning with a double down the left-field line. After Tomlinson reached base on a Pirate error and Bo Edwards reached base on a walk, Delgado brought Sams home on another two-out single to bring the score to 7-3.

The Nighthawks continued the rally in the ninth inning. Hoover again led off the inning with a walk and Sam Tidaback took a full-count pitch to left field to put two UNG runners on base with no one out. After a Sams RBI groundout and a Tomlinson walk, Taylor Jones loaded the bases with a single to right field. Edwards watched the next four pitches to get a RBI on a walk that cut the lead to 7-5. Kevin Krupp brought the game to its final 7-6 score on a sacrifice fly that scored Tomlinson.
